I’ve been drawing Queens, Princesses and other Court Ladies since I’ve been a grown man

I grew up in a farm in Flanders and had to deal with much boredom as a child… so I made up my own Versailles, ennobling my dogs, distributing lands and titles to my fowls… My stable became my castle, my poultry became my court

The feathers of the most beautiful hens, the colours of the seasons, the shapes of vegetables… I started to turn everything into royal female figures that I would invite to balls or sacrament ceremonies.

I think that I draw my characters’ lines as so many character traits, and that I fill with colour what I would love to touch!

I am not a monarchist, but I do have some kind of ‘royal blues’, I confuse the Queen with the Mother in these faceless women drawings, always driven by mixed feelings of humour and melancholy.
